Denton Suspended License Attorney

The Basics of Suspended Licenses

There are many ways for an individual in the state of Texas to have their license suspended. When a license is suspended, the driver’s license division of the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles will mail the offender a notice detailing their suspension.

Once an individual’s license is suspended, he or she may not drive for a set period of time. The length of the suspension varies based on what a person did to have their license revoked. Once the suspension period is up, the offender must apply to have the license reinstated. He or she is required to pay reinstatement fees to get their license back. This fee is in addition to whatever fines or penalties were paid to cover the citations that invoked the suspension in the first place.

If an individual’s license is revoked, a new license will need to be applied for once the revocation period expires. To acquire a new license following a revocation, an individual will have to go through the entire licensing process. This includes driving tests and written exams and any and all fees that go along with a new license.

Driver’s license suspensions and revocations will appear on your driving record and affect your insurance premiums.

There are, as already mentioned, many ways to lose a license. The most basic way is to be pulled over for a suspected DWI and then to refuse a breath test or fail the breath test. Traffic violations are another way to have a license suspended. These include driving with a suspended license and too many moving violations in a specified time frame. If an individual is involved in an accident and does not have insurance or is deemed at fault in an accident even with insurance, the license can be suspended or worse.

The final way to have a license revoked is through a medical revocation. Doctors are required to report patients that are afflicted with medical conditions that impair or restrict their ability to drive. Some of these revocations can be reversed.
