Violent Crimes
As a legal definition, violent crimes are defined as a crime where a person uses or threatens to use some sort of violent forces against the victim. The crime must be of an extreme violent nature and it can be committed with or without a weapon. Violent crimes can range anywhere from physical abuse to murder and anywhere in between.
Studies have shown that males are the primary victims of most of the forms of violent crimes. The only exception to this rule would be rape. Violent crimes can also be considered like an ending to another crime. For instance, if you are robbing a bank and need a clean get away, you might murder the tellers in the back of the building. This would be considered a violent crime because of the extremeness of the crime.
The punishments from a violent crime can vary depending on the severity and the extent of the crime. Some violent crimes can be counted as different types of felonies and can be charged with up to 99 years in prison depending on what the judge rules. There are other crimes that can only be counted as something like an assault case which is technically counted as a misdemeanor and will have a minor amount of time in jail. The judge will make a ruling based on what they think the appropriate punishment and sentence is. The larger the crime is the more extensive the punishment or sentence will be.
