What is the difference between straight probation and deferred adjudication probation?

Deferred adjudication probation does not require the individual to have spent a specific amount of time in jail or prison when the deferred adjudication probation is handed down. This is generally granted for more minor infractions and commonly includes such things as community service. Straight probation is given to a person after they have spent time in a jail or prison because of a conviction for a crime. If either version of probation is violated, the judge may revoke probation and send the individual to jail or back to jail.
